Oh simple cylinder of foam
Relief for tight muscles
You hurt so good
Oh happy rest day! After 6 days of training, today is a rest day for me. I have to admit I am a bit antsy, as things are going so well lately and I just want to get out there and keep those good feelings going. However, rest and recovery are essential to any training plan and cannot be overlooked or ignored. I may want to run, but my body needs a day of rest. So, today I will spend some much needed time working out any kinks and tight muscles with my foam roller. If you aren't familiar with foam rollers, here is a quick snippet about them (scroll to the end of the list). I truly believe anybody and everybody - from elite athletes to desk jockeys - should own one and use it regularly. I know I don't use mine as often as I should, but I made a firm resolution this training cycle to be better about getting mine out after every run, as well as in the morning and before bed. As I cannot get a massage as often as I would like, the foam roller provides a way to work on tight fascia at home, or wherever I might be. I even keep one in my car, just in case!
Do you make sure to get a little "foam roller love" into your post workout routine?
